Co-founder and Sales Executive Trent gives us a little insight into his life.
What's the story of you, to now, in 50 words or less?
I was born to two incredible parents, grew up in the 'burbs, went to both private and public school and spent a lifetime in sales while battling against the entrepreneurial spirit.
Married, I have two guinea pigs and own a brilliant café with a focus on local foods within the Mary Valley on the Sunshine Coast.
As well as being a co-founder for Ekcelent and Co, what else do you do?
My wife and I own a café in the Mary Valley on the Sunshine Coast with a focus on local organic food called Kandanga Kitchen. My day is spent chasing two guinea pigs around the house, husband to my beautiful wife, love mountain biking and am gradually getting better at riding waves on my longboard on the waves of Noosa.
Ekcelent and Co is a jewellery label. What is your favourite accessory?
I dig sneakers. Adidas, Nike, New Balance. My RM William boots are a very, very close second.
When did you realise you wanted to pursue a career selling?
I don’t think I ever pursued the career instead I was just born for it. I love people; I love great products that are a market leader or offer a point of difference for the customer and most of all I love hearing people's stories, and why they buy what they buy.
What did you wear to your first interview?
Black pants, black shirt and a South Park tie. Yes, I did get the job, it must have been the tie!
What is your favourite piece from the new range?
Paintdrip Earrings, I love those.
How do you want people to feel when wearing an Ekcelent and Co piece?
You’ve got this.
How do you spend your free time?]
What free time?! No, really if I do have some spare time, it’s mountain biking, jogging, surfing or playing around with new recipes together for brewing at home.
What is your favourite piece of clothing? Why so special?
Just a basic grey t-shirt. I wouldn’t say there is anything special about it other than I wear it everywhere, much to my wife's delight.
What are you watching right now?
Black Mirror on Netflix. Gets me every time.
What do you spend the most time thinking about?
Where I want to be in 5 years' time.
Where do you want Ekcelent and Co to be in three years’ time?
I truly believe we have something different to anything else on the market. I would love to have retailers both in Australia and the USA and be a recognised brand name.
What gives your life meaning?
Knowing that I am taking risks while others keep talking. I don’t want to die with a list full of dreams.
A kimchi toastie from Kandanga Kitchen. Fermented red cabbage with a hint of chilli and garlic, sandwiched in between local cheeses and fresh sourdough. Oh and don’t forget to add the free-range bacon. Yum.
Who is your favourite storyteller?
Dr Seuss. That guy is amazing.
Top 5 movies?
Damn only 5, that's a hard one. Fight Club, Braveheart, Ex Machina, Pan’s Labyrinth and Anchor Man
What is your design philosophy?
Design should have three elements. It should be functional, eye-catching and affordable. Get these things right, and you're onto a winner.
